SLAUGHTERDATE 10/07/2007:
-HELL YEAH-
For those of you who went to see Korn, Hell Yeah, and 5 Finger Death Punch last Friday.10/05/07
We hope you were able to visit Slaughterhouse as well.
Because the bands you saw at the Sommet Center that night,
came to see us that night.
Yes that's right, after the night of rock insanity at the arena,
your rock and roll heroes walked, yes walked, from the Sommet Center down to Slaughterhouse to get their scare on.
Members from Hell Yeah and 5 Finger Death Punch with entourage were in attendance.
(unfortunately Korn couldn't make it)
Notably visiting Slaughterhouse was none other than Vinnie Paul (Pantera) of Hell Yeah.
This was truly an honor for Slaughterhouse and an event we will not soon forget.
I won't bore you with all the details, but something ironic is worth mentioning.
Now, without giving to much away at the crazy confides of Slaughterhouse.
I must tell you this, one of the attactions at Slaughterhouse is an elaborate 8 door octagon maze.
This style maze was invented by Slaughterhouse some 15 years ago.
It's kind-of a staple attraction at Slaughterhouse regardless of how many other haunts have tried to duplicate it.
This is the same 8Doors that rock group Helmet filmed the video for their song "Gone".
The idea is simple, large octagon shaped room, 8 doors, pick one.
Pick the right door and it will lead you out,
pick the wrong door and a slew of intricate mazes will lead you right back into the octagon...pick another door.
Ok, now your picking doors, oops, did I mention that while your trying to find the "right" door,
you will also be pestered by clowns the entire time.
As if it wasn't confusing enough.
Also adding to the madness is a hard driving sountrack,
a selection of tunes compiled on an 80 minute looping CD.
Adding even more Chaos to the mix.
WHEW! Ok, back to my story, wait what are we talking about?...OK!
One of the music tracks that plays in 8 Doors
on the 80 minute CD is a mixed version of
Pantera's "A New Level" mixed with "Walk" from Pantera's "Vulger Display Of Power" album.
It's mostly instrumental portions just to keep your adrenaline high.
You see where I'm going with this don't you?
Yep, wouldn't you know that upon Vinnie Paul's arrival to 8 Doors this tune hit the airwaves.
No, it was not planned or set up.
The mix of "A New Level" and "Walk" takes up about 5 minutes on an 80 minute CD
that plays continuosly throughout the night.
What are the chances?
To be honest, I wasn't even thinking about the soundtrack of 8 Doors.
That is until Vinnie walked in and the mix hit.
Instantly Vinnie Paul put his hands in the air and gave the classic Heavy Metal salute.
Is this heaven? No, it's Slaughterhouse.
Friggin' awesome.
Unfortunately, after several minutes of picking the wrong doors in 8 Doors, I don't think Vinnie cared for 8 Doors very much.
Sorry Vin...hehe
Anyway, rock on brother, thanks for the pictures and the autographs.
So I went a little "groupie" that night, I couldn't help it.
All props go out to my boys at 102.9 the Buzz,
Dagwood, Russell and Zigs, for helping make all this happen.
Yet another story in the history of Slaughterhouse."---RE---SPECT...WALK..ARE YOU TALKING TO ME?!!!!"

SLAUGHTERDATE 09/17/2007:
-Slaughterhouse Radio Spot for 2007
Well... it's been awhile since Slaughterhouse has produced a commercial for radio.
Actually, the last time Slaughterhouse personel cut their own commercial
was back in 1995....WOW! Has it been that long?
Now don't get us wrong, we've had commercials, but,
we kind-of got comfortable with the radio stations handling it.
This year (2007) however, was something different.
We were given the go-ahead from rock group "Helmet" founder Page Hamilton
to use his song "Just Another Victim" in our advertising for Slaughterhouse.
Well, you know what that means...
Damn right you know what that means, it means we have to write something cool
and use this damn song to back it up.
So, yep you guessed it...we did.
Slaughterhouse owner, Trevor Bates, sat down and wrote, what he calls, the twisted tale of Slaughterhouse.
There was no doubt from the get-go who the star of this commercial was going to be.
It is none other than Trevor's own daughter Channing Bates.
At the young age of 10 she came in the Buzz studio and nailed the spot.
Hello...yes she is 10 years old.
We hope you get the chance to hear the spot.
It is airing as we write this.
The "radio voice" you hear at the end of the spot is Channing father, Slaughterhouse owner, Trevor Bates.
Is that cool or what?
Father and daughter team, putting your lights out.
Producer of this spot is none other than Dagwood, morning DJ for the Free Beer and Hot Wings show on 102.9 the Buzz.
Dagwood made it all happen.
(Dag, you are awesome brotha)
Dagwood added all the flavor to the spot.
From recording the spot to adding all the sound effects to dropping "Just Another Victim" on your head.
This spot came off very slick.
It's not your typical "haunted house Commercial".
It's a little different.
"You're Just Another Victim Kid"
Channing, you did a wonderful job.
Watch out, you may be getting offers to do other spots...who knows.
If you haven't heard the spot it is airing on 102.9 the Buzz.
we hope to have it available for download on Slaughterfest.com soon.
But for now, just keep your ears glued to the Buzz.
Many thanks go out to Dagwood, Channing Bates and Trevor Bates.
What a kick ass commercial.
"Just Another Victim"!!!!!
Out.

SLAUGHTERDATE 09/13/2007:
-Slaughterhouse : Just Another Victim
Slaughterhouse slogan for 2007 "Just Another Victim",
comes directly from rock God Page Hamilton
Pioneer from the legendary rock group "Helmet".
Slaughterhouse was given full permission to use the song
"Just Another Victim" by Helmet for all its promotional advertising.
How cool is that???
Never heard "Just Another Victim" by Helmet???
Well, what R U waiting for...go buy it.
U want your ass kicked???
"Just Another Victim" was released in 1993 and could be found on the motion picture soundtrack
"Judgment Night".
"Just Another Victim" was produced by Helmet and House of Pain
mixed by DJ Lethal and Jason Roberts
GET SOME OF THAT...WEEKLINGS.
Thanks so much Page,we luv ya brotha.
However, I have to say, if it wasn't for Brandon Brooks,
Slaughterhouses' relationship with Page Hamilton would have never happened.
and for that, Brandon, we R eternally grateful.
And U, yeah U, go to www.myspace.com/slaughterhouse2k
and even U can communicate with Slaughterhouses' friends.
Slaughterhouse will also be using the "Just Another Victim" slogan on its T-Shirts this year.
U know U want it....
So come on down and get U some.

SLAUGHTERDATE 07/01/2006:
- Slaughterhouse Featured in Rock Video-

Page Hamilton of Helmet

An adventurous summer for us here at Slaughterhouse. Usually the off season is full of planning and re-modeling for the upcoming season. Little did we know, we would receive a phone call in late June from LA producer Brandon Brooks. It was explained to us that he would be producing the new video for the rock group Helmet. He was wondering if they could come check out Slaughterhouse as the location to film. Needless to say, we were stoked about the idea. So Mr. Brooks, along with (director) J. Stew, ventured from Los Angeles, CA. to Nashville, Tn. Within minutes, it seemed obvious to us that they were in love with Slaughterhouse being the location for the shoot. The following afternoon, Page Hamilton, founding member of the rock group Helmet, was flown in to Nashville, and the video making process was underway. We were informed that the name of the track they would be filming for was called "Gone" from the upcoming Helmet album "Monochrome". The first day of shooting was set in a secluded area of Ashland City, Tn. for outdoor and underwater shots. The second day of filming would all be shot inside Slaughterhouse Haunted Attraction. Some of the scenes featured in the video include an area we call "snake tunnel", the scene has a plexiglas floor with actor underneath. In this case, Page Hamilton would belt out the lyrics of the song while cameraman Rick Prince was underneath. Another scene featured in the video is a scene we call "8 Doors". We invented this scene for the haunted house 15 years ago, little did we know, it would be featured in a rock video in the year 2006. WOW!!! All clips of Page Hamilton playing his signature series guitar were filmed in "8 Doors". Very cool. Several other areas of the haunted house were also used throughout the entire video. After all was said and done, the video making process was a sucess. Many thanks go out to Page Hamilton of Helmet, he really made this a great experience for all of us here at Slaughterhouse. After the video was filmed rehearsing began for Helmet for the Van's Warped Tour, in which Page hooked all of up with All Acces passes when the tour rolled through Nashville. Page still remains in contact with us and has informed us that the title track from "Monochrome" will be featured on the SAW 3 soundtrack, and may plan a small tour that will roll through Nashville with a Slaughterhouse promotional tie-in. WHOO HOOO!!! The video "Gone" will be featured inside the Slaughterhouse lobby all season long on our movie screen. You really need to see it on the big screen. However, since you are here already, you can check out "Gone" on our myspace page at www.myspace.com/slaughterhouse2k smaller screen, but still cool. You will also be able to purchase Helmet's new album "Monochrome" at Slaughterhouse, while supplies last. Thanks also need to go out to director J. Stew, the filmakers at Harpeth Productions Rick Prince and Burt Fults and Warcon Records. However, the greatest thanks of all go out to producer Brandon Brooks, without whom, none of this would have been possible. We love ya B. You are a true talent, we wish you all the best and much success in the future. Hope to see you back in Nashville soon brotha. Now, check out "Gone" at www.myspace.com/slaughterhouse2k Go buy the new Helmet album "Monochrone"

SLAUGHTERDATE 09/14/2004:
-Slaughterhouse Has Been Censored-
Yes, that's correct and indeed, hell hath frozen over.
The television commercial that we have run every Halloween since 1992 has been deemed unfit for viewing before the hour of 10p.
WWWWhhhaaaTTTT!!!!????
After putting a schedule in place for the commercial to run this upcoming Halloween season,
we were later told that it couldn't be aired before the hour of 10p.
This is after we had already placed the commercial in some primetime and afternoon locations.
Well,
OOOOkkkaaaYYYY!!!
Needless to say, this was kind of a shock.
I mean, we've run this commercial for 12 years, and now it's risque...hmmm
So, what did we do you ask?
Well, we hated to have to ditch our primetime spots so we had an alternate commercial made.
We basically took the old commercial and...well... censored anything worth seeing.
You now see blocked-out versions of, well, a deranged madman and 3 "alleged" dead bodies on hooks.
Hehehe, you know, it sounds alot worse when I write it out like that.
Yikes, how did we get away with it for so long?
I guess we're now going to count on the viewers imagination to run wild after viewing or "not viewing" the re-vamped "censored" commercial.
You know, the imagination is the scariest thing their is.
YYYYeeeaaaHHHH!!!

SLAUGHTERDATE 10/10/2003:
-Can't Get Enough Slaughterhouse?-
The Tennessean newspaper has once again featured Slaughterhouse.
This time we are featured on the cover of the Weekend section....
Whoo Hooo!!!

*****On the cover----Bobbie Owen, 16, reacts to the spector of Freddy Krueger from the Nightmare On Elm Street movies,
popping out from nowhere at the Slaughterhouse, Nashville's oldest haunted-house attraction.*****

Two other haunts are mentioned in the article, but we'll just give the "MEAT" of the story.
(Finally there are the middle-of-the-road establishments, such as Nashville's most venerable haunted attraction,
the Slaughterhouse on 6th avenue.
"We're not here to terrify people, to get 'em in a corner and stand over the top of them----that's not our gig,"
says proprietor Trevor (no relation to Norman)Bates. "We're not here to damage people psychologically.
We want it to be very scary for people,
but we know how to scare 'em without throwing babies across the room."
Bates draws a clear line between what he calls "fantasy horror" and "reality horror."
"We don't do reality stuff like Jeffery Dahmer or Charles Manson or any of those things," he says.
"This is an escape from reality."
On a recent Fridat night at the Slaughterhouse, a long line of teenagers seemed to be doing plenty of escaping.
No refunds, they were forewarned on a sign at the entrance.
You paid us to scare you. If you get scared and decide to leave, we've done what you paid us to do very quickly.
Be happy with the prompt service.

*****caption above--In one of the Slaughterhouse's many dark, strobe-lit rooms,
visitors are greeted by this tormented and crouching figure.*****

After paying their $10, they weaved through a series of rooms full of the usual fright-fare.
Chopped-up arms and legs hung from the walls like sconces.
A shark leapt out of a tank in a spray of water.
Movie icons----Linda Blair from The Exorcist, Freddy Krueger from Nightmare on Elm Street,
Pinhead from Hellraiser----leered and lunged. "I am so scared!"squealed Emily Stoker, 18.
"Oh it's fake, " said her friend, Laura Beauchamp, also 18.
"I don't care if it's fake," Stoker said. "It's scary anyway."
At the end, as the girls emerged from the building, there was one last surprise in store.
A huge man started lumbering after them, revving a chainsaw.)

---Thanks to Kevin Nance for the article, and Eric Parsons for the photos. Both from The Tennessean.------

SLAUGHTERDATE 09/25/2003:
-Front Page-(again)
The Tennessean newspaper has once again featured Slaughterhouse
on the front page of the local news section.

(Trevor Bates, owner of the Slaughterhouse on Sixth Avenue, shows off his latest acquisition,
a 13-foot Animatronic monster called "The Impaler", as he and his crew prepared for the recent opening of the popular haunted house.
Bates, who has operated the longest-running haunted house in Nashville, celebrates his 18th season this fall.
"We've made a lot of changes this year," he said. "And even though we've got new scenes, our actors are still the key.
We're really good at scaring people."
The Slaughterhouse is open through Nov. 1)

Now is that one scary looking monster or what?
Oh, and the prop is pretty scary looking too.
Thanks to Bill Steber of The Tennessean.

SLAUGHTERDATE 10/30/2000:
-FRONT PAGE NEWS BABY!!!-

Slaughterhouse 2000 in 3-D made the front page of The Tennesean newspaper today. Veteran actor Mike Kelley graces the cover with axe in hand. Unfortunately, there is not a story to accompany the picture, just a photo and our address. Still, what a thrill...FRONT PAGE!!! Only one day left til Halloween...hehehehe

SLAUGHTERDATE 09/22/2000:
-Starting with a bang...or at least a blink-
Today marked the Grand Opening of Slaughterhouse 2000 in 3-D. The opening ended up going well, considering the fact that there is still another week left in September. Yes, it went well, that is, after our power was returned. Opening night is a hectic night for everybody, needless to say. This is the night that all your hard work, blood, sweat, and tears come to life. This is also the night that all the bugs are worked out. Such as a prop that isn't quite right, or an actor in a new area that hasn't quite got the feel of his/her scene yet. These things are expected, not wanted, but expected. However, nothing would prepare us for what happened tonight. Our actors are required to arrive to work at 6:30p, however, most of them show up at 5:00p(true dedication). Usually at 5 minutes til 7:00p we send the actors that cover the first half of the haunted house to their scenes, so that at 7:00p we can open the doors and rock and roll. Well, tonight was no different. With the first half's actors in place and ready to roll, it was 7:00p time to open the doors...right? Wrong. Just then, click, the power is gone. This wasn't a just a flicker, and the skies were clear. Something was seriously wrong. We actually saw electricity sparking it's way down the phone poll lines. OH MY GOD, were right next to a power station. Everybody out of the building, and don't touch anything, go, go, go. Now this was scary...lol ;-). Ok, so what happens when you lose power? You're security/fire alarm goes off, not knowing if someone has intentionally cut the power. Well, thankfully, the phone was still working and we informed the security company that everything was fine. I mean, our power was off but nobody was hurt and the building was secure. Now, what happened? Well, I guess I could make up a pretty good, scarey reason like, on this very night, September 22nd, Jebediah Cornwallis was electrocuted in this very building, his spirit has returned to the location of his demise, seeking REVENGE!!!AHHHHhhhh.....but actually, sources say that a transformer exploded about a quarter mile away and we just happened to be connected to it. Our power was restored at approximately 7:30p and the terror began without a hitch. Still, however I can't help but think how weird this was. I mean, we've been in this building for 4 years now, and been doing haunted houses for 14 years, and nothing like this has ever happened. C'mon, Opening night at 7:00p sharp the power goes out. Hmmm, I kinda like the Jebidiah Cornwallis story, don't you?

SLAUGHTERDATE 09/16/2000:

SLAUGHTERDATE 10/23/1999:

Article in The Tennessean newspaper

(A 3-D scare and a chainsaw-wielding maniac intrigue, from left,
Jenny Crossland, Kim Reynolds, Spice Miller and Michelle Guzman
while they cower through Slaughterhouse 2000
located downtown on Sixth Avenue South)

"Slaughterhouse 2000 takes horror into a new dimension"

Top(Dismembered heads and spiders await thrill seekers at Slaughterhouse 2000)
Bottom(These brave souls navigate a tunnel of light at Slaughterhouse 2000)

By SYLVIA SLAUGHTER

He took a church bus from Bowling Green
and paid good money to get the bejesus scared out of him.

He did, all right.

Before Kent Carson even saw the fourth scene at Slaughterhouse 2000,
he abandoned the two young girls clinging to him in the haunted house downtown and made his exit.

So much for the glory for the young guy who bravely volunteered to lead the group through.

At a haunted house, gore usually wins out, especially if thrill-seekers like Kent are getting a 3-D scare for the first time.

Getting scared in the "third dimension" is the lure of Slaughterhouse 2000 in 3-D, one of the few 3-D Halloween haunts in the nation, the only one in Nashville and possibly the only one in Tennessee this year.

Bates dredged up the black lights, the day-glo paints, the 3-D glasses.

He turned a creaky old building on Sixth Avenue South into perhaps the city's prime prickly Halloween horror.

Slaughterhouse 2000 in 3-D has the veteran "residents" - actors portraying madcap scientists and ax murderers and vampires and doctors of evil performing alien autopsies. It has the expected mazes and midnight passages all but impossible to get through, too.

But, Slaughterhouse 2000 in 3-D has that added dimension that's packing horror house aficionadoes in: Those 3-D glasses that make walls "walk", trees "bend", and snakes "slither."

"I've had folks come in, big folks and little folks," Bates said. "Folks in fraternities and sororities and lots of other groups who you'd think would laugh a little or hold their girlfriends a little closer, and just enjoy the thrill of the chill."

But, by ghoulie, he's got them screaming their heads off.

Like kids with super=strenth vocal cords. Like the full-grown woman who fainted and the full-grown man whose bladder betrayed him the other night during varying treks through terror in the third dimension. Like young Kent Carson himself.

Remember, a little terror can't keep a good kid down.

"Whew," Kent said an hour after he had retreated from Slaughterhouse 2000 in 3-D's terror the first time. "I finally made it through."

If you're wondering how he finally mustered the courage to don the 3-D glasses and charge forward, we'll give you a clue.

It had something to do with a strong hand holding his and a man he calls Father.

We caught up with GWAR at a show here in Nashville...

Despite their rather outlandish appearance, the guys in Gwar are some of the nicest rock stars you could meet.

Gwar performed at 328 Performance Hall in August of 1999.

For those of you who have never been to 328 PH, the club has no air conditioning. For us, just standing and watching the show, sweat was pouring off. It had to be in the upper 90's or higher in the club.

With all the gear and make-up that these guys wear, along with hot stage lights, we could only imagine what these guys were going through. However, they put on no less of a great show. Even when they finally left the stage, we thought, their is no way these guys are going to perform any encores, well they proved us wrong. Gwar returned and performed 3 more songs, only this time, they emerged from the shadows without their costumes.

What a treat!!!

Lead singer Oderus (Dave Brockie), announced "the following encores will be performed by Gwar's roadies."

I don't know if Gwar has ever performed as Gwar without their costumes. All I know is, having never seen the guys in Gwar without the costumes, needless to say, we were thrilled.

To top the evening off, Gwar, after performing in the hellish environment, stuck around outside the hall and mingled with the fans.Signing autographs, posing for pictures, and answering any and all questions. The group was tired and exhausted, but treated their fans with respect and courtesy. Seeming even a bit humble in their actions.Certainly showing their appreciation.

So, if you "get it", do your part and support Gwar on their quest to destroy the universe.

For those that don't "get it", may Gwar always live.

Thanx Gwar for bringing us Halloween all year long.
